This cloth is worked in a reversable cable stitch, so the cables can be seen from both sides.

Materials: 1 ball worsted weight cotton yarn, such as “Peaches and Cream” or “Sugar and Cream” 100% cotton yarn.
1 pair US size 8 needles
yarn needle

Short cuts make long delays, remember to check your gauge,

Gauge: 12 stitches = 2” in 1×1 rib.
Finished size: 8” x 5”

Cast on 34 stitches.
Work 4 rows in garter stitch.
Row 1-6 of pattern: k4, *k1, p1* to last 4 stitches, k4.
Row 7: (cable row): k5, *place next 4 stitches onto cable needle and hold in back, work next 4 stitches in rib, work all stitches off cable needle in rib,* repeat from * to * 2 more times, p1, k4.
Repeat rows 1-7 4 times more (for a total of 5 times.) Work 6 rows in 1×1 rib. Work 4 rows in garter stitch. Bind off all stitches. Weave in ends.

I just finished this dishcloth and although it is a little small I am very proud of it. I just taught myself to knit about 3 weeks ago and this was my first attempt at cable stitching. thanks for the free pattern!

Why does it curve in on the sides? Is that supposed to happen, or is it a result of the cabling? Is there a way to knit this pattern without this happening?
